Flight Mode In Airplane: Why is it important to keep your phone on flight mode in an airplane?
Flight Mode In Airplane: A few moments later after the man had boarded the aircraft he was asked to put his phone on flight mode. Have you ever thought — why this? There is actually a huge reason behind the phone being in flight mode during take-off or landing of the airplane.
Explaining the reasoning behind this, one of the pilots said that not doing it, gives difficulties to the pilots in hearing each other, which may damage the airplane too as well as the lives of the passengers onboard.
A pilot who goes by @perchpoint revealed in a now-viral TikTok video that a mobile phone can disrupt communication between the pilot’s radio and the tower when the pilot attempts to make contact with the tower.
He added that when several mobile phones connect to the tower at the same time, it leads to problems for a pilot hearing the instructions on his radio set. These cell phones emit radio waves, which can breach into the radio waves of the pilot’s headset.

He cited a relatively recent incident, where the a similar thing had got him into trouble. He was requesting instructions from the control tower on where to taxi his plane at the airport, but the instructions couldn’t be heard because the radio waves from the mobile phone was interfering with the radio. He likened it to the sound of a mosquito getting into the ear.
According to the directives of the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) India, flyers are to keep their phones on flight mode during the travel. As per these guidelines, all mobile tablets and laptops, and tablets, must be kept in the flight mode only. Nonetheless, certain airlines would offer in-flight Wi-Fi facility subject to the capability of the aircraft and approval from DGCA.
