US Parliament Committee- with key members, warned TikTok’s parent company ByteDance and its CEO on Friday. TikTok is a national security threat to America and must be sold, they said. Otherwise, TikTok only can be blocked from America.

ByteDance and TikTok are alleged to be susceptible to pressure from the Chinese government. Some say that TikTok is a way for the Chinese government to obtain user information or to feed people disinformation by manipulating the videos.

This dispute involves two of the biggest tech companies in the world, namely Google’s company Alphabet and Apple. If ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, does not sell its US business, the US government has directed the aforementioned companies to remove TikTok from the App Stores by January 19. While neither Apple nor Google commented, it would mark a significant escalation in the battle between US and Chinese tech firms, if it occurred.

The court ruling is being appealed to the Supreme Court by both ByteDance and TikTok. They are asking the court to stay the joint breakup order until the matter is reexamined. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin pointed out that this law will “mean the death” of TikTok in the US, and millions of Americans not be able to use TikTok.

The crux of all of this is that TikTok is owned by a Chinese company, and thus, is ultimately subject to Chinese laws. Some people are concerned the Chinese government is able to collect or misuse usersériquection through TikTok.

As per this law, if it comes into effect, from uploading TikTok App from Apple App Store and Google Play on January 19. The Justice Department, however, said that it won’t prevent existing users from using the application, but without updates and support, TikTok “will be effectively unsustainable in the U.S.”
