Cyberpunk Update: Check Cyberpunk 2077’s latest patch
Cyberpunk Update: So CD Projekt Red snuck a little gift from the tabletop under the tree in advance of the holidays in a secret update to Cyberpunk 2077. According to a representative for Cyberpunk publisher R. Talsorian Games — who also spoke with Polygon on the matter a few days back — “anybody with Cyberpunk 2077 who can get to their Bonus Content folder should have access to Cyberpunk RED: Easy Mode in there because it is, natch, free.”
For its part, Cyberpunk 2077 update 2.22 quietly included the quick start guide to the tabletop role-playing game — no shout of “hey, look at our tabletop game! Easy Mode contains condensed rules and a starter mission to efficiently introduce new players to busily rolling dice pools rather than controllers and keyboards.
In the quick start, players will be able to choose to play as one of five pre-generated characters: the charming Rockerboy, the deadly Solo, the creative Tech, the healing Medtech, and the no nonsense Media. While this book does offer a substantial history and overview of Night City, those familiar with the video game should find the world of the Cyberpunk RED prequel practically familiar.
Cyberpunk Update
While an early access version of Cyberpunk RED debuted with the Gen Con 2019 preview, the fully realized game came out together with Cyberpunk 2077 in 2020. This tabletop is similar to the updated version of Cyberpunk 2020 RPG (Originally from 1989).
Set in a world where corporations rule the globe from “skyscraper fortresses,” the franchise examines the darker science fiction of an end-stage capitalist technofuture. Perhaps a little on the nose. Cyberpunk RED is set 45-40 years after 2077, well inside the time line of 2020.
Polygon has even confirmed that the gift is accessible to PC gamers. Find your copy of the PDF on PC under “C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\music\Cyberpunk 2077 Bonus Content.” Polygon has been unable to confirm how to acquire the PDF on either Xbox or PlayStation, but the spokesperson claimed it was “supposed to be” enabled for those platforms too.
And if you catch the bug and want some more Cyberpunk TTRPG’s, the bonus stuff on Steam also features the original Cyberpunk 2020 core rulebook. The complete Cyberpunk Red core rule book can be found for $60 from R Talsorian Games.
