Another such discovery, that of a network of cyber criminals, came to light this week where they have been supposedly deceiving people using deep fake videos of popular American businessmen. They loot millions of subscribers YouTube accounts by creating fake channels. Through these accounts they stream fake videos, in which they entice people to invest in crypto.

One such cyber attack occurred a few months back, where Harsh and Prerna Malhan were the victims. Clicking on the suspicious PDF in the name of a GoPro brand collaboration. What Method or Trick Do Hackers Use to Steal YouTuber’s Account?

Now the email id using which Prerna Malhan was having access to her account was a temporary ID. Which makes it hard to track the hacker. A disposable email address was used to change the password According to a detailed report release by CloudSEK, the scammers are extracting the account credentials of the people using fake brand collaboration tricks.

The 2 lakh YouTube creators have been targeted using this method, the report claimed. To do this, an attack from a single email account has sent between 500 to 1000 phishing emails to target creators. And the emails are under the pretext of brand collaboration, with a link to a ZIP file with PDF, Excel etc. The moment a creator downloads those files, the malware is automatically installed into their system.

Others entice individuals to invest with the promise of large returns. The scam started with asking people to invest small amounts, and then the scammers move on with their game. They fake platforms too and show awesome returns as well.

An example of a deepfake video is an interview of Elon Musk discussing making massive money from AI driven trading solutions. In this video, he was just talking to Tesla shareholders. Such videos are cut, copy pasted, and uploaded on the internet just to loot people towards them.

Youtube Hack: Who is the target?

Such videos mainly target general public associated with crypto. Scammers are targeting people who understand cryptocurrency, Musk, AI but are less aware of sound investment principles. Over 40 Youtube channels were targeted in a coordinated cyber attack in 2022.

They all played advertisements for One World Cryptocurrency. These hackers are mostly focusing on creators for talks in finance. Such hacking has been done with many Indian YouTubers in the last few days.
